i don’t know why but i have to tell the world that i’m a fan of the infamous Rene Magritte, the surreallist artist. actually, me myself is a fan of surreallist art.

* on the last image above, Magritte painted below the pipe “This is not a pipe” (Ceci n’est pas une pipe), which seems a contradiction, but is actually true: the painting is not a pipe, it is an image of a pipe. It was appeared in a tobacco advertisement and it created a little havoc to the reader of newspaper in that time.

well, to tell you the truth, i like his paintings because in late 20s, he’s already defying the logics and his paintings does makes people think.
his remarks on The Son of Man :
“At least it hides the face partly. Well, so you have the apparent face, the apple, hiding the visible but hidden, the face of the person. It’s something that happens constantly. Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see. There is an interest in that which is hidden and which the visible does not show us. This interest can take the form of a quite intense feeling, a sort of conflict, one might say, between the visible that is hidden and the visible that is present.”
“My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question, “What does that mean?”. It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing either, it is unknowable. “
